Based on the 2013 Curriculum and Syllabus, reading is required to be able to comprehend and find out the specific information on the text. In teaching reading, using appropriate media is one of the keys to learning to become successful, and it could make students reading comprehension get increase. One of the media is a picture storybook as the visual media with a good influence for the student in understanding the text. Therefore, the aim of this research is describing the use of picture storybook in teaching reading comprehension of recount text at eighth-grade students of SMPN 15 Banjarbaru.

The research was conducted from 25th February until 12th March 2020 in the English class of SMPN 15 Banjarbaru. The method was descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of the research were eighth-grade students of VIIIC consisting of 31 students. The data was collected from the interview and observation. This research used data triangulation to analyzed qualitative data. In analyzing data, there were identification, description, and conclusion the data.

The findings of the research are 1) the teaching process of using Picture storybook in reading comprehension of recount text at eighth-grade students at SMPN 15 Banjarbaru. 2) the technique used by teacher are pre-reading, whilst-reading and post-reading. 3) the strength and weakness of picture storybook.

In conclusion, it is suggested that essential to teacher to use kind of media to support the learning and teaching process. The teacher should keep used of the storybook to support the teaching and learning, especially in reading activities, so that can make students achieved a better score and motivate students in teaching and learning activities. Furthermore, the research findings can be used as a reference for future researchers in conducting the research with different topics.
