            Politeness is one of the basic human interaction. It is considered to promote affective interaction between people. In social interaction politeness principle has an important aspect. It used to create effective communication between speaker and the hearer.  The researcher was interested to conduct this research on teachers because in teaching and learning process teacher’s role is required in creating a good character for students. In teaching and learning process, teacher acts as motivator and role model. Therefore, a teacher should consider and be careful acting and interacting with his students especially during classroom activity. He also needs to speak politely in front of the students in order to influence them to speak polite too. The researcher conducted on qualitative method. The subject in this research are first grade English teachers at SMAN 1 Kandangan. The data were the utterances of the teachers and collected using observation sheet. The data were classified into six maxims of politeness principle. The result of this research showed there were six maxims employed by the teachers, Tact Maxim, Generosity Maxim, Approbation Maxim, Modesty Maxim, Agreement Maxim, and Sympathy Maxim. From the data found, approbation maxim was the most used maxim by the teahcer during the process of English teaching and learning.
