In English, there was something often neglected named translation, which crucial to comprehend what we speak, read, write, and listen. Translation can be performed directly in oral or in written by using many kinds of strategies. This thesisfocuses on students’ problems in translating English compound words into Indonesian.

This research used a descriptive qualitative to find out students’ problems in translating English compound words into Bahasa Indonesia and to know what effort which the student’s problems in translating English compound words into Indonesia. The subject of this study is the translation class students of English Education Language of FKIP Universitas Lambung Mangkurat consisting of 27 students gathered by random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaire and interview.  The findings of the research showed that some students wereunable to identify one word of the compound word and represent the meaning of it, they had low translation knowledge, and sometimes miss understanding the text.

The conclusion of this research was students’ problem in translating English compound words face by translation class students of FKIP ULM Banjarmasin, was mostly because they could not represent the meaning of each word, and they lest the reference to doing that. The researcher suggested several actions in order to overcome the translation problems similarly discussion with their friends and lecturer, study more about the translation, and checked to a dictionary and more references.
