This research attempts to describe the implementation of teaching reading comprehension integrated in learning at school and it will describe the processes and conditions which are faced by the teacher in the implementation of the teaching process.
The objective of this research is to find out the process teaching reading comprehension integrated in learning at school. In order to find out the data, the researcher used the qualitative method. The researcher takes one English teacher of SMPN 31 Banjarmasin as the subject of this research. The instruments of this research are class observation, interview with the English teacher, field notes, and documentation. The analysis of data is done by describing the process of teaching reading in the classroom, the result of the interview, and documentation from the teacher.
Based on the data analyzed, the researcher found that the English teacher used some techniques; reading aloud and role play emerge in the process of teaching reading. However, the teaching reading ran in a monotonous way with the main source of material in teaching reading is When English Rings A Bell Textbook in 2013 Curriculum. It was also found the class has English subject twice a week which each has 90 minutes. The teacher thought the material and technique implementation was quite good to do. But only, there few students who practiced English or read English text. The teacher could use the materials from other sources, such as newspapers, magazines, literature, and the internet, which can fulfill students' purpose in learning reading and the teacher should be using different techniques in teaching reading such as jigsaw, mapping, dictation or summarizing.
