Participants need to fulfill the cooperative principle (Maxims) proposed by Grice or well known as maxims, to reach the goal of the conversation. They are maxim of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner. Meanwhile, learning maxims in dialogues is essential to make students easier for students to understand the maxims. Therefore, this research aimed to find out the types of maxims and the types of maxims that are flouted  in the dialogues of the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris “When English Rings a Bell” for the Eighth Grade Students of Junior High School.

The researcher used a descriptive qualitative study. Furthermore, the researcher used documentation to analyze the research. While English textbook “When English Rings A Bell” for the Eighth Grade Students Of Junior High School was the object of this research. The researcher analyzed the types of maxims and the types of maxims that are flouted  in the dialogues of the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris “When English Rings a Bell” for the Eighth Grade Students of Junior High School

Based on the data analysis, the result showed that there are 66 dialogues (19,13%) containing maxim of quantity, 96 dialogues (27,83%) containing maxim of quality, 92 dialogues (26,66%) containing maxim of relevance, and 91 dialogues (26,38%) containing maxim of manner. Meanwhile, dialogues that contain flouting maxim of quantity are 30 dialogues (76,92%), 0 dialogues (0%) contained flouting maxim of quality, four dialogues (10,26%) contained flouting maxim of relevance, and five dialogues (12,82%) contained flouting the maxim of manner. Therefore, the most flouting maxim is quantity, and zero for flouting the maxim of quality because honesty is essential to get trusted by other people. Also, the teacher should teach these fundamental maxims to the students to enhance their skill in speaking and produce a good conversation.
