“Evaluation of Land Capability in the Upper Arfat Watershed of Riam Kanan Reservoir”

This study aims to determine the evaluation of land capability in the Arfat Hulu Watershed of Riam Kanan Reservoir. The population in this study is all land in the Arfat watershed which has a land area of 16793.66 Ha. The sample in this study was determined based on the results of the land unit map and obtained 16 land units. The sampling method used cluster random sampling technique. The research method used is a quantitative method with survey techniques, interviews and observations as well as soil laboratory analysis to obtain primary and secondary data. The data analysis method uses the matching method.

The results showed that there were four classes of land capability, namely class II, III, IV and VI with the limiting factors from erosion (e), from drainage conditions (w) and from root areas (s). The direction of land use based on the results of data analysis with the matching method, it was found that the evaluation of the land capability of most of the land can be used for agricultural crops except for class VI land, seasonal crops, grasses, pastures, production forests, protected forests and nature reserves or wildlife sanctuaries. In increasing the capacity of land for plants, special soil processing, fertilization and land conservation actions are needed if needed. With the use of land in accordance with the ability of the land so that the land is not damaged and provides benefits to the lives of the surrounding community.
