Quizizz is a game-based learning tool that provides an engaging and interactive learning experience. It exhibits a visually pleasing display, mitigates cheating, and fosters a competitive atmosphere in the classroom. Previous studies examined the effects of quizzes on students' skills in senior high school. However, research on implementing Quizizz in English teaching at the junior high school level is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the utilization of the Quizizz Application to teach English in a junior high school setting, specifically at SMPN 4 Banjarmasin.
This research applied a qualitative approach. The researcher collected the data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subject of this research was one teacher of SMPN 4 Banjarmasin.
The finding showed that the teacher utilizes the Instructor-Paced Lessons feature on Quizizz to monitor students' progress during in-class tests. These tests incorporate game elements to keep students engaged. Quizizz helps in teaching and assessing students. It has two main features: instructor-paced lessons, where the teacher controls the lesson's pace, and student-paced lessons, where students and teachers can track progress at their own pace. Quizizz was beneficial as it made students active and eliminated the need for manual correction. It can be concluded that Quizizz enhances in-class quizzes, facilitates learning of external materials, and fosters motivation. However, Quizizz relies on regular internet access, and challenges arise from difficulties with connections on students' devices. Despite these challenges, Quizizz displays a pleasant visual display, increases students' focus, and offers flexibility in accessibility.
