Writing skill is a hard skill among others because it has to be a concern more about it.The students should choose the proper word to express meaning so that the readers catch what information they wrote. Considering the importance of writing procedures correctly and by the English rules, this research aims to describe how to write a paragraph correctly which occurs with tenth-grade students of senior high school. This research was carried out to find the students’ problems in writing recount text and determine the types of problems made by the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Martapura.
The method used in this study was qualitative research. The data was presented in descriptive analysis because the researcher wanted to describe what problems made by the students and gave them tips to enhance their writing skills, especially in writing recount text and the research usedindicators of writing by Hughes Arthur. The researcher used a written test for students to make a recount text in collecting the data.
The result of the study showed that there are the highest-three and the lowest-one problems made by the students. The highest-three common problems are grammar with 24 mistakes, vocabulary with 19 mistakes, and mechanics with 12 mistakes. The lowest-one problem is 3 organization mistakes. The researcher hopes that this thesis will be useful for English teachers, students, and next researchers.
