Grammar is an important role that must be considered because grammar is the basic rule or the way to arrange the word to correct the structure of sentences. Direct and Indirect Speech is one of the elements in grammar. On English daily conversation, direct and indirect speech is frequently used, either in spoken or written form. The writer chooses to conduct this research because based on the previous studies there were still many students who had difficulties in changing direct to indirect speech. Therefore, the researcher wants to find out the ability of changing direct to indirect in different area which is English Language Education Study Program Batch 2023.

            This research was using descriptive quantitative. The participants were ELESP students of Lambung Mangkurat University Batch 2023 who took Intensive English class. The sample of this research is 19 students that had been chosen randomly based from 25% of the population. The instrument used in this research was written test. The test is consists of 25 question. Then, the data is presented in percentage and described in descriptive form.

            The study found that the result for the seven tenses aspect namely, Simple Present, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Present Perfect Continuous, Simple Past, Future, Future Continuous, that the students of ELESP batch 2023 are in “D” category. The students did not make appropriate changes that based on the rules of the tenses change in direct to indirect speech, and most of the students did not do any changes towards the sentences especially on the tenses. As a suggestion, the students need to practice more in changing direct to indirect speech and they need to memorize the rules of changing direct to indirect speech, especially in term of the tenses changes.
