Wetlands are important in providing ecosystem services such as conservation and biomass production. The purpose of this study was to assess land degradation affecting biomass production in wetlands of Bakarangan sub-district, Tapin district. Land degradation can be caused by human activities and natural factors such as land function, which can reduce soil quality and biomass productivity. The research methodology included literature review, field observation and laboratory analysis of soil samples collected from 0 to 50 cm distance at 10 locations. The parameters analyzed included pyrite depth, water depth, redox, pH, EC and soil microbial count by the requirements of soil degradation for biomass production. The results showed that the soil condition in the wetland was classified as slightly damaged (R.I), which was influenced by water depth conditions and redox conditions. Recommendations are made to improve the research site according to the limiting factors, namely the construction of irrigation channels to keep the water depth < 25 cm from the surface and to reduce oxidation.
