Alabio yam (Dioscorea alata L.) is one of the tuber plants in North Hulu Sungai Regency and is widely cultivated in shallow and middle swamp areas. The problem faced in the use of tuber plants as a substitute food source for rice is the lack of information on tuber cultivation technology, especially uwi, starting from soil, climate and other physical environmental characteristics. In order to overcome this problem, it is necessary to evaluate land suitability. Evaluation of land suitability needs to be carried out so that it becomes a basis for consideration in making appropriate land use decisions. The aim of this research is to determine the characteristics and suitability classes of Alabio cassava land in Sungai Pandan District. This research used interview methods, field surveys and soil tests. Determining the location for taking soil samples was carried out using the purposive sampling method. The implementation of this research was divided into several stages, namely the research location survey stage, soil sampling, data collection and analysis of observation parameters. Based on the research results, the characteristics of Alabio's sweet potato land in Sungai Pandan District, Hulu Sungai Utara Regency in terms of soil fertility are in the low to high category. Meanwhile, from the physical parameters and environmental conditions of the land, the high flood factor is a limiting factor in the cultivation of Alabio yams in Lebak swamps. The land suitability class for Alabio yam cultivation in Sungai Pandan District is in the suitability class S3 (Marginally suitable). Limiting factors in the form of K-total are found in Banyu Tajun Dalam Village, N-total in Murung Masam Village, soil acidity (pH) in Banyu Tajun Hilir Village, while flood inundation height is found in eight villages in Sungai Pandan District.
