Writing is the most difficult skill to be learnt. Writing is continuous complex process of expressions. When do writing, the students must concern about the grammar, tenses, and spelling. Because writing is difficult, there is always posibility that errors happen.

This research is aim to describe the students’errors in writing descriptive essay. The sample of the research was 20 students of fourth semester students of English department in Lambung Mangkurat University. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test. The students were asked to write a descriptive essay based on the given topic. The researcher  used surface strategy taxonomy by Dulay et al to analize the errors. Then, the researcher made a conclusion of the research.

 

Based on data analysis, the dominant frequency of total errors was misformation that had 149 errors (60.8%). Then, it was followed by omission with 55 errors (22.5%). Next, the errors were followed by addition on 30 errors (12. 2%). The last frequency showed a very contrast numbers with the others types of error was 11 errors (4.5%) of misordering. It is sugestted that the student should be more aware in choosing the correct words when they make sentences.
