PEAT IS A TYPE OF SOIL FORMED FROM THE ACCUMULATION OF ORGANIC MATTER, RESULT FROM IMPERFECT DECOMPOSITION IN WATERLOGGED AND OXYGEN-POOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. HOWEVER, PEATLAND MANAGEMENT OFTEN IGNORES ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, CAUSING RAPID DEGRADATION DUE TO EXCESSIVE USE OF CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS AND PEATLAND BURNING. THIS ACCELERATES ECOSYSTEM DAMAGE AND REDUCES SOIL QUALITY, CHARACTERIZED BY INCREASED ACIDITY, SOIL COMPACTION, AND FAILURE OF BIOTA TO DEVELOP. IN ADDITION, PEATLANDS HAVE LOW FERTILITY, MINIMAL MACRO AND MICRONUTRIENTS, HIGH CEC, AND LOW BASE SATURATION. ONE ALTERNATIVE TO IMPROVE PEATLANDS IS THE USE OF AMELIORANTS, SUCH AS PLANT WASTE AND BIOCHAR. PLANT WASTE PALM OIL WASTE, IS PART OF THE OIL PALM EMPTY FRUIT BUNCH (EFB). EFB AND FRONDS ARE WIDELY USED BECAUSE THEY CAN INCREASE SOIL NUTRIENTS. MEANWHILE, BIOCHAR FROM PYROLYSIS OF ORGANIC BIOMASS IN LIMITED CONDITIONS IS EFFECTIVE IN IMPROVING SOIL QUALITY AND IS MORE RESISTANT TO DECOMPOSITION, SO IT CAN LAST LONGER IN THE SOIL. THE RESEARCH METHOD COMPRISED 5 TREATMENTS: CHOPPED EFB, CHOPPED FRONDS, BIOCHAR EFB, BIOCHAR FRONDS, AND CONTROL. THE PROVISION OF THE FORMULA OF OIL PALM WASTE, PART OF EFB, AND FRONDS IN THE FORM OF SHREDS AND BIOCHAR IN PEAT SOIL HAD AN EFFECT ON SOIL PH, AVAILABLE P, AND MICROBIAL BIOMASS. THE PROVISION OF OIL PALM WASTE IN THE FORM OF EFB BIOCHAR AND FRONDS HAD A GREATER EFFECT AS COMPARED TO THE PROVISION OF OIL PALM WASTE IN THE FORM OF CHOPPED EFB AND FRONDS.
