Land-use conversion to oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) plantations in tropical regions such as Indonesia has caused various ecological impacts, including alterations in soil physical properties. This study aimed to identify differences in soil physical characteristics between oil palm plantation land and shrubland. The observed parameters included bulk density, particle density, porosity, field capacity water content, and soil organic carbon (C-organic). Soil samples were collected from oil palm and shrubland areas owned by a local resident in Mampari Village, Batumandi Subdistrict, Balangan Regency. The samples were then analyzed at the Soil Physics and Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University. The results revealed significant differences in most soil physical parameters between the two land types. The oil palm plantation had a higher bulk density (1.40 gcm-³) than the shrubland (1.21 gcm-³), but lower porosity, field capacity water content, and C-organic values. Meanwhile, particle density showed no significant difference. These findings highlight the importance of ecologically sustainable land management practices to maintain soil ecological functions and prevent land degradation.
