Listening is an important part of language acquisition and should be taught using effective strategies. Listening achievement refers to students' ability to understand spoken language after being taught and practicing listening. However, many students, especially seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 30 Banjarmasin, still face difficulties in listening. Ineffective teaching methods may hinder their ability to build listening achievement successfully. Multimedia such as audio-visual media has shown positive results in language learning especially listening. Audio-visual media, which combines sound and visuals, can support students in staying focused, becoming more engaged, and better understanding spoken content.

This research aimed to find out whether there is a difference in listening achievement between students taught using audio-visual media and those taught using audio media. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design was used, involving 59 students selected through cluster random sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through listening achievement tests given as a pre-test and post-test. The collected data were analyzed using an independent t-test through SPSS version 21.

The results showed a significance value of 0.041, which is below the 0.05 threshold. This indicates that the null hypothesis (H?) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H?) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was an effect of audio-visual media on the listening achievement of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 30 Banjarmasin. This finding demonstrates a significant difference in the listening achievement between students taught using audio-visual media and those taught using audio media.
