Land use differences can affect soil characteristics, especially chemical properties essential for plant growth. This study aimed to determine the chemical properties of soil, including soil pH, total nitrogen (N-total), organic carbon (C-organic), and exchangeable potassium, in paddy field and galam forest land in Hiyung Village, Tapin Tengah District, Tapin Regency, and to analyze the influence of land use differences on these parameters. The research applied a non-experimental method with a field survey approach. Soil samples were collected using purposive sampling at 15 points per land type with a soil auger at a depth of 0–20 cm. The samples were then analyzed in the laboratory. Data were tested using analysis of variance (f-test) to assess homogeneity, followed by a t-test to determine significant differences. The results showed that the chemical properties of soil between the two land uses were homogeneous in distribution. However, soil pH and N-total were significantly different, while C-organic and K-dd were not. This condition is presumably influenced by land management systems, the rate of organic matter decomposition, and water saturation commonly found in both land types. The study indicates that land use differences can selectively affect certain soil chemical properties.
