Reading is one of the skills that students must master when learning English. Students who read understand the meaning of information. Narrative text is a type of writing that tells a story by connecting events in a certain order. In this modern era, innovation is needed to meet students' learning needs. Gamification has gained considerable traction in educational settings for its potential to transform learning dynamics. Therefore, this study aims to investigated there was an effect of using wordwall.net and quizizz as teaching media in teaching reading narrative texts for 8th grade students at SMPN 4 Banjarmasin
This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design conducted on fifty-eight students who were divided into groups experimental group and the control group through purposive sampling. The instrument used in collecting data was a test conducted from the beginning, namely a pre-test and then ending with a post-test. Data testing was carried out using the Mann-Whitney test, calculated using SPSS 22.
The test results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Where the experimental group got a higher score than the control group. This is evidenced by the significance value of 0.003 which is smaller than 0.05, which means the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an increase in students' reading ability after being given treatment using wordwall.net. It is recommended for teachers to use the wordwall.net application to teach students in the classroom
