Abstract: Scallions (Allium fistulosum L.) are a type of annual leafy vegetable plant. The prospect

for scallions are quite goog to meet the needs of domestic and internasional consumers. Scallion

production in Indonesian is unstable every year. To obtain optimal production results, scallions

require suitable growing conditions, both in terms of soil and climate. Soil condition that must

be considered include soil physical properties, chemical properties, biological properties and

altitude. In addition, light factors also afeect scallion production. Providing shade is one effort to

regulate the intensity of sunlight reaching the plant. The purpose of this study was to determine

the effect of using different levels of shade density for onion plants. This research method used

a 1 (one) dfactor Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 (four) shade treatments. S0= No shade

0%, S1= Shade paranet density 25%, S2= Shade paranet density 50%, S3= Shade paranet density

75%. Each treatment was divided into 4 groups so that there were 20 experimental units. The

results showed that the use of different levels of shade significantly affected plant height at 21

days after planting, the number of leaves per clump at 21, 42, and 72 days after planting, the

number of tillers at 21, 42, and 72 days after planting, and the fresh weight at 21, 42, and 72 days

after planting. Furthermore, the aoolication of shade netting increased the chlorophyll content

of spring onion leaves. The result showed that the best treatment was without any treatment.
