ABTRACT
This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution pattern of Junior High School (SMP) locations in Tanah Grogot District, Paser Regency, using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The study is motivated by the uneven distribution of schools, which has led to disparities in public access to educational services across different areas. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using both spatial and non-spatial data. The data consisted of school location coordinates, administrative boundary maps, road network data, and population statistics obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the Department of Education, and field observations. Spatial analysis was conducted using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and the Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN) method to identify the spatial distribution pattern of school locations.
The results indicate that the distribution of Junior High Schools in Tanah Grogot District exhibits a clustered spatial pattern, with most schools concentrated in the central part of the district, particularly in Tanah Grogot Village and Tepian Batang Village. In contrast, several villages, including Janju, Sempulang, Sungai Tuak, Jone, Sungai Langir, Pulau Rantau, Senaken, and Tapis, do not have any junior high schools, requiring residents to travel to neighboring villages to access educational services. These findings suggest that the spatial distribution of schools has not yet fully corresponded to the distribution of the population and the educational service needs of each area. The application of GIS provides a clear spatial representation of school distribution patterns and serves as valuable information for supporting educational planning and policy-making. This study is expected to contribute to the Paser Regency Government in formulating more equitable, effective, and sustainable strategies for the development of junior high school locations.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola persebaran lokasi Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) di Kecamatan Tanah Grogot, Kabupaten Paser, menggunakan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada belum meratanya persebaran sekolah yang menyebabkan perbedaan tingkat akses masyarakat terhadap layanan pendidikan antarwilayah. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan memanfaatkan data spasial dan nonspasial. Data yang digunakan meliputi koordinat lokasi sekolah, batas administrasi, jaringan jalan, serta data kependudukan yang diperoleh dari Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), Dinas Pendidikan, dan hasil observasi lapangan. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) melalui metode Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN) untuk mengidentifikasi pola persebaran lokasi sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persebaran lokasi SMP di Kecamatan Tanah Grogot cenderung membentuk pola mengelompok (clustered), di mana sebagian besar sekolah terkonsentrasi di wilayah pusat kecamatan, terutama di Kelurahan Tanah Grogot dan Desa Tepian Batang. Sebaliknya, beberapa desa seperti Janju, Sempulang, Sungai Tuak, Jone, Sungai Langir, Pulau Rantau, Senaken, dan Tapis belum memiliki SMP sehingga masyarakat di wilayah tersebut harus mengakses sekolah di desa atau kelurahan lain. Kondisi ini menunjukkan bahwa persebaran lokasi sekolah belum sepenuhnya sejalan dengan persebaran penduduk dan kebutuhan pelayanan pendidikan di setiap wilayah. Pemanfaatan SIG mampu memberikan gambaran spasial yang jelas mengenai pola persebaran sekolah sehingga dapat menjadi dasar dalam penyusunan kebijakan pemerataan pembangunan pendidikan. Penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi masukan bagi Pemerintah Kabupaten Paser dalam merencanakan pengembangan lokasi sekolah secara lebih merata, efektif, dan berkelanjutan.
