Speaking ability plays an important role as a means of communication. However, many eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Banjarmasin found it struggle to speak English fluently and confidently. This situation is made worse by teaching methods that are mostly passive. To address this issue, the use of interactive and innovative approaches and media is needed to enhance students’ speaking ability. Hence, this study tries to find an effective way to improve students’ speaking fluency through learning media by investigating whether or not there is an effect on students who are taught using Talkpal AI and students who are not at eleventh grade in SMA Negeri 7 Banjarmasin. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design on the seventy-six students who were divided into an experimental class and a control class through cluster sampling. The primary instrument for data collection was an extensive speaking monologue test, which comprised a pre-test and post-test. The collected data were subjected to the independent-samples t-test using Jamovi. The results reveal that there is a difference in the effect between the two classes, with students in the experimental class achieving higher post-test scores than those in the control class. This finding is supported by the p-value of 0.025, which is lower than the alpha level of 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of the Talkpal AI application has an impact on students' speaking fluency. Therefore, it is suggested that teachers use and further explore the implementation of Talkpal AI in language learning to help improve students' speaking ability, particularly their speaking fluency.
