The aim of this study was to find out whether there is any difference on the students’ reading comprehension achievement between those who are taught using Direct Reading Thinking Activity and those who are taught using Think Pair Share in the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 9 Banjarmasin.
The method used in this study is quantitative method with quasi experimental design. The writer chooses VIII G as experimental class which taught using Direct Reading Thinking Activity and VIII I as the control class which taught using Think Pair Share. Both classes consist of 33 students. From the test the writer got pre-test score 63.1515 in experimental class and 63.0303 in control class, and post-test score 75.15152 in both classes. Based on the result of t-test, it was – 0.2257 and t-table was 1.6690. The result of t-test was lower than t-table, so the hypothesis null was accepted and the alternative hypothesis was rejected. It is means there is no difference on the students’ reading comprehension achievement between those who are taught using Direct Reading Thinking Activity and Think Pair Share. In other words, both techniques are good for English Language teaching classroom.
