Advances in digital technology have brought about major changes in language learning processes, one of which is through the use of Neural Machine Translation (NMT). English Education students are increasingly utilizing NMT as a tool for independent learning. This study aims to analyze how students use NMT, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of NMT in their English learning experiences. Descriptive qualitative method is used as the research method for this study.

The data were collected through questionnaire, interview, and documentation towards students of the English Education Study Program batch 2022 at Lambung Mangkurat University. The data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis to identify patterns and main themes related to the use of NMT.

The findings show that the frequency of Neural Machine Translation (NMT) use by students depends on their learning needs and the context of use. NMT is used almost every day, especially for writing academic, reading English texts, and understanding new vocabulary. Interview findings reveal that students utilize NMT not only as a translation tool, but also as a strategic tool for understanding vocabulary, sentence structure, academic language style, and pronunciation through various supporting features. The research suggests that students should continue verifying translations and practice producing their own sentences to maintain linguistic competence.
