This study aimed to determine the effects of raw material composition and tapioca adhesive concentration on the characteristics of charcoal briquettes, as well as to identify the best treatment based on the quality standards specified in SNI 01-6235-2000, including density, moisture content, volatile matter, ash content, calorific value, and fixed carbon. The study employed a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD), an experimental design that combines two or more treatment factors. Factor A consisted of the raw material composition, while Factor B consisted of the concentration of tapioca adhesive. The results showed that treatment A1B2 (95% coconut shell charcoal + 5% galam bark charcoal with 10% tapioca adhesive concentration) was the best treatment. This treatment produced the highest density (0.7472 g/cm³), the lowest ash content (0.8800%), the lowest volatile matter content (11.5467%), and the highest fixed carbon content (83.8984%), with a moisture content of 2.9658% and a calorific value of 6791.7047 cal/g. From an economic perspective, this treatment utilized a higher proportion of coconut shell charcoal, which generally has a higher economic value than galam bark waste. Therefore, although it produced the highest-quality charcoal briquettes, its application on an industrial scale should consider the balance between product quality and raw material costs to ensure economic feasibility.
