This research is aimed to decscribe the implementation of cooperative learning in teaching English at seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Banjarmasin.

The research was descriptive qualitative research. The samples of the research were two English teachers and 60 students of the seventh grade. Classes of Accounting 1 and Accounting 2 from seven classes were chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The data were gathered from documentation, observation, and interviews.

Based on the implementation on the cooperative learning at the seventh grade, it showed that the implementation of cooperative learning as one alternative in teaching technique in teaching English. The result of using cooperative learning in teaching English in this study reflects enjoyment during teaching and learning activites and students are able to increase their abilities. One thing which is lacking in teaching English using cooperative learning is the difficulty in choosing the appropriate learning topics. So, the teacher should choose the topic that is really suitable for cooperative learning in teaching English.
