This thesis is aimed to describe what are the lexical problems in translating
from English into Indonesian made by English Department students Batch 2014.
This research uses descriptive quantitative method. The populations in this research
are 144 students and total samples are 36 students who are taken by using random
sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher uses subjective test in form of
translation test. This research uses test re-test technique to ensure the reliability of
the instrument. The validity of the test used in this research is content validity with
the help of expert validator. From the research result, the data show that the most
frequent lexical problem is polysemous meaning especially in part ‘animal/ meat’.
There are 97.2%. In differential meaning there are 19.4% and in non-differential
meaning are 11.1%. In semantic field there are 33.3% in part ‘physical sensation’.
Based on the result, it is suggested for the students to study hard especially in
vocabulary that is related to lexical, to give full attention to the teacher explanation
in teaching and learning activity, and they need more practice in translating from
English into Indonesian intensively.
