This study is conducted for describing the grammatical errors generated in descriptive writing made by the English department of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). Writing is the hardest skill to be mastered due to requirements of generating words, sentences, along with paragraph simultaneously. This study is descriptive qualitative study. The writer had chosen the third-semester students (later mention as ‘L2 learners’) of English Department at ULM academic year 2019/2020 with 70 L2 learners as the chosen subjects.

The data were analyzed by utilizing error analysis method. The classified based on Azar’s error classification; singular-plural, word form, verb tense, word choice, addition, omission, word order, incomplete sentence, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, article, meaning not clear, and run-on sentence and language features descriptive paragraph. The study result shows that the most error that the L2 learners made are in “Omission, word choice, verb tense, addition, singular-plural, incomplete sentence, spelling, word form, word order, capitalization, run-on sentence and article.” The L2 learners still bewildered in choosing the appropriate word in a sentence due to knowledge insufficiency or poor vocabularies along with utilization. Besides that, some L2 learners attempted to translate the words separately the Indonesian into English by neglecting the structure rules of grammar.
