The purpose of this study was to investigate the teacher’s strategies on teaching English vocabulary at eleventh grade of MAN 3 Banjarmasin. There are three problems that going to be discuss in this thesis those are: (1) what are the teacher’s strategies in teaching vocabulary at the eleventh grade of MAN 3 Banjarmasin, (2) why does the teacher apply the strategy in teaching English vocabulary at the eleventh grade of MAN 3 Banjarmasin, (3) what are the teacher’s problem in teaching English vocabulary at the eleventh grade of MAN 3 Banjarmasin
The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. This research conducted in MAN 3 Banjarmasin started from October, 12th until October, 14th, 2020. The participants of this study were the English teacher of MAN 3 Banjarmasin, consist of one person. This research used a questionnaire as the main instrument and an interview as the side instrument. In analyzing the data this research used data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusion.
Based on the analysis of an interview. The writer found the strategies used by the teacher were multiple meaning, game and memorization. Using multiple meaning the students can get one more meaning of vocabulary. And then memorizing is the ease understanding the English language. So, the strategies used teaching English vocabulary in teaching at the eleventh grade of MAN 3 Banjarmasin. But in fact, the students still find it difficult. Then it is suggested that when a teacher English vocabulary, she or he must use appropriate teachers strategies to improve student’s vocabulary mastery.
