This study explore the inhibiting factors and the student's efforts to overcome inhibition in speaking English as a foreign language. This study used a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. The participants of this study are the students of fifth-semester students who have taken the Advanced Speaking Course. Furthermore, eight students were selected to be interviewed based on the higher total score of the questionnaire. The interview conducted to collect verbal data from students and provide more information about inhibiting factors in online speaking classrooms. This research used the interactive model to analyze the data consisting of data reduction, display, and conclusions.

The result of the study shows that self-confidence, shyness, and pronunciation are most factors that appeared to inhibit the students from learning to speak English. In addition, the students are also influenced by a lack of motivation, self-esteem, language ego, grammar, vocabulary, classroom interaction and fear of language evaluation factor in online learning to speak English. The most effort students to overcome the obstacles are watching English video and practising speaking with friends and their own. Based on the research result, it is suggested to students to be more confident in speaking and improve their speaking skills by consistently practising speaking by roleplay. For Lectures, it is suggested to become facilitators and guide students who need help when they face problems in learning to speak. For the researchers, it is suggested to need to conduct a study and explore more about inhibiting factors and how to overcome them in speaking faced by students.
