The Covid-19 outbreak has "forced" face-to-face teaching and learning to be entirely online. This situation also affects the teachers in teaching-learning process.  During the total closure of the education setting due to the pandemic, all teaching and learning activities are done online thoroughly without physical interaction and utilized by technology. Therefore, the absence of social interaction in language learning during this shifted learning mode surely influences the learning instructions and how students and teachers communicate in the process of learning which leads to code-switching.

Considering the importance of Code-switching in the language teaching-learning process, this study aimed to analyze the phenomenon of Code-switching occurrence used by teachers through E-learning classes. This study focuses to identify of code-switching according to Hoffman's theory and finding out the Code-switching function based on Jingxia's theory. The study was carried out at SMPN 03 Banjarmasin from August until September 2021. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative study to conduct this research by observation, interview, and voice recording to gather the data in the use of Code-switching in the E-learning classes. The subject of the study is the two English teachers of eighth-grade students. After collecting the data, those data were analyzed through some stages, namely transcribing the recorded data into written data, classifying the data based on the types of Code-switching, giving code for each datum, analyzing the data, and interpreting them to answer the research problems.

The first study's results in terms of types of code-switching revealed that all participants practiced code-switching in online teaching and learning through E-learning classes. The discussion provides three types of Code-switching based on Hoffman's theory: tag-switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential switching. Furthermore, Inter-sentential switching is often used in online discussions. Meanwhile, the second result showed that the English teacher mostly did Code-switching for Managing the online class, such as admonishing the students, asking the students to do an exercise, or asking a student to read and answer questions. Moreover, the English teacher also often did Code-switching to translate unknown vocabulary items.
