This study aimed to find out the challenges faced by ELESP pre-service teachers in designing and implementing lesson plan during Asistensi Mengajar program in SMAN 1 Banjarmasin. This research was designed to explore the challenges in designing and implementing lesson plan that faced by pre-service teachers.

The researcher used qualitative descriptive research to create in-depth textual descriptions of how people experience a particular research problem. This research design is used to gain a better understanding of the research problems. The participants in this study were 3 (three) pre-service teachers who participated in the Asistensi Mengajar program in SMAN 1 Banjarmasin during the academic year 2022-2023.The instrument of this study was questionnaires, interviews, observation checklist, and documents.

Findings of this study can be categorized into two distinct groups: the challenges in designing the lesson plan and the challenges in implementing the lesson plan. The pre-service teacher challenges in designing the lesson plan covered in determining the relevant lesson objectives, alignment with curriculum standards, and to ensure the relevant lesson material. Furthermore, the pre-service teacher challenges in implementing the lesson plan covered in the insufficient of time management and classroom management skills.
