This study aimed to discover international students' problems while studying in Indonesia. This study aims to focus on the intercultural competence of The Philippines students studying in the English Language Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University. The subject of this study is a student from the Philippines batch 2019 who got a full-ride scholarship to study in the English Language Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University.

This research used qualitative descriptive research focusing on understanding social phenomena from the subject's perspective. This research used narrative inquiry as its primary method to find the life experience of the issues over time and know the subject's experiences while studying in Indonesia. The instrument used in this research is interviews.

The findings can be categorized into three elements of the Intercultural competence model: knowledge, skills, and attitude. In the element of knowledge that includes cultural self-awareness as the main component, the subject mentioned

That she learned and understood the culture as much as possible, especially those that interested her. She also takes active steps to increase her cultural awareness. In terms of element skills, the findings show that the subject had a problem while having a conversation with the locals at first. Still, she tried to learn the language, both Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Banjar, with her friends and this helps her in her daily life, especially when talking with the people around her and the locals. And in the elements of attitudes have four sub-components: respect, openness, curiosity and discovery.  She mentioned that when she is in a conversation with her friends or people. Around her, she tried to listen more and then tried to answer them in a low-tone voice at first. She did this to make sure that she didn’t get misunderstood by the people she was talking to. She also said in order to get respect, she needs to respect others' opinions first. Based on the findings, it is suggested that the university can hold some seminars or a special class before the start of the study. The purpose of this is to prepare the international student, especially in communication, which becomes the main problem of the subject in this research. The university could also make a special curriculum for the international students who majored outside The English Language Education Study Program; this will make the international students face less difficulty in understanding the material that the lectures gave to them.
