Translation is the interpretation of the meaning of the text from the source language to produce equivalent texts in the target language that communicate similar messages. process of translation can be done either manually by humans, or automatically by assistance of a computer. Nowadays, internet is the familiar thing for students and people generally. This computer assisted translation is also commonly known as machine translation. Machine translation is designed to translate text from a source language to a target language by trying to resemble the capabilities of a professional translator Nasution (2022).

This research is conducted to seek how is the ELESP(English Language Education Study Program) students’ dependency on the use of automatic machine translation(google translate) in class. The participants were the students that use google translate and also willing to involve in this research. The instrument used were questionare and interview. From the research result it concluded that the respondent are not dependent to google translate (automatic machine translation) as they use it according to their needs.

The research showed that the respondents were not dependent to Google translate, as they use it according to their needs. They sometimes use it only for difficult or unknown words. The feature of Google translate used by the respondents is as translator and online dictionary. A feature that all of them did not use is Google translate as a learning tool for pronunciation of foreign languages. The advantages while using Google translate felt by the respondents are easy to access, fast and light that they did not need to bring dictionary, only need phone, and convenient to use. The disadvantages of using Google translate are the decreasing of intelligence as the use of translation machine used frequently, the translation is not accurate, and internet requirement to use Google translate.
