The implementation of suggestopedia at SMPN 30 Banjarmasin is one of the teachers' efforts to improve students' vocabulary mastery. The implementation of suggestopedia uses four primary stages and applies the characteristics of suggestopedia in terms of pre-, while, and post-activities. Several studies focus on the effectiveness of the suggestopedia method in teaching. This research focuses on implementing suggestopedia in teaching vocabulary in SMPN 30 Banjarmasin.
The study was conducted at SMPN 30 Banjarmasin, involving an English teacher and 30 eighth-grade students. This study used a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. The researcher used observation, interviews, and documentation to gain more profound information about how the Suggestopedia method is implemented in teaching vocabulary and the students' activities when the teacher uses it.
The result of this research, the Suggestopedia method, has been implemented in teaching vocabulary in the eighth grade of SMPN 30 Banjarmasin. The teacher starts with the presentation stage, saying that learning today is fun. In the concert session stage, the teacher reads the recount text to the students while translating the vocabulary that looks difficult. Then, the teacher plays instrumental music with speakers in the background and asks the students to read the recounted text while listening to the instrumental music. In the elaboration stage, the teacher reminds them that they will play Guess the Vocabulary and do the practice questions with the group with the visual help of the pictures on the board. Lastly, in the practice stage, the teacher plays Guess the Vocabulary, followed by the students.
