Listening is a critical skill in acquiring English as a foreign language, yet enhancing listening abilities is particularly challenging, especially within the framework of online learning during the pandemic. YouTube, a widely-used video platform, has significant potential to aid listening skill development. This paper reviews literature on the benefits of using YouTube videos for listening comprehension. A total of eighteen articles published between 2018 and 2024 were analyzed. The systematic review process comprised five stages: framing the research question, identifying relevant studies, evaluating research quality, summarizing the evidence, and interpreting the findings. The results indicate that YouTube enhances students' motivation and interest in listening practice. It provides authentic and diverse listening materials, enabling students to learn at their own pace. Empirical studies demonstrated a significant improvement in students' listening test scores following the use of YouTube videos. Both linguistic and non-linguistic benefits were observed. However, challenges such as diverse accents and speech speed persist. The synthesis suggests that YouTube can effectively enhance EFL listening skills when used strategically with teacher guidance and assessment. Further experimental research is recommended to fully substantiate the benefits of YouTube in listening instruction.
