English is a global language that is important for communication and education, including at the junior high school level. Effective English teaching requires an understanding of student needs, learning materials, and the use of appropriate learning media. However, many teachers experience difficulties due to the need for adequate media and infrastructure.
This research aims to investigate the types of media used, the problems faced, and the solutions implemented by English teachers at SMP Negeri 27 Banjarmasin. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach; data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were carried out during seven meetings in two different classes, while interviews involved two English teachers.
The research revealed that English teachers use various types of learning media, including visual media, audio, and audiovisual media. These media include Lembar Kerja Siswa, student worksheets, speakers, LCD projectors, pictures, and jumbled sentences, with Lembar Kerja Siswa and student worksheets being the most frequently used. Problems faced by teachers include limited media availability, technical problems, and time constraints. Teachers solve these problems by creating their own media, utilizing classroom resources, and seeking technical assistance. This researcher suggests that schools should increase the availability and variety of learning media and encourage teachers to innovate in the use of media to increase student engagement.
