A student who has low assertive behavior will find it difficult to clearly convey his feelings and thoughts, defend himself and defend his opinion. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the need for affiliation and self-esteem on assertive behavior in students at SMA Negeri 11 Banjarmasin.

This study used a quantitative approach with correlation research and the sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The data collection tool uses a questionnaire with a Likert scale. There were 220 students at SMA Negeri 11 Banjarmasin who became the research sample.

The results of the study show that based on data analysis techniques using product moment correlation and multiple correlation, the results show that there is a relationship between , , andY which indicates that r count > r table, namely 0.447 > 0.132. Therefore it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the need for affiliation and self-esteem towards assertive behavior in students at SMA Negeri 11 Banjarmasin. For further researchers, they can develop research topics by linking other variables such as the intensity of smartphone use, self adjustment, self concept or conducting research to increase students affiliation needs, self-esteem and assertive behavior and for counseling teachers to be able to provide related guidance and counseling services with assertive behavior in students at SMA Negeri 11 Banjarmasin.
