Social media is one of the social networks that learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) frequently use. Mastering writing skills poses a greater challenge for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students compared to other language skills, as it requires proficient utilization of grammar, vocabulary, and spelling to effectively convey ideas, experiences, emotions, and sentiments in written form. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the role of social media for EFL students’ writing ability. This study employed a qualitative approach and utilized a systematic literature review design. This study utilized approximately twenty prior studies as data sources, focusing on keywords related to the roles of social media in EFL learning, writing skills, and creative writing. Data was collected through search engines such as National Library, Google Scholar, Elsevier, ScienceDirect, ResearchGate, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). From the investigation of twenty articles, researchers found that social media significantly impacts students’ English writing skills. The various features and interactions on social media also help stimulate students’ creativity and keep them engaged. Therefore, this article aims to explore how using social media can develop students’ English writing skills.
