Writing is one of the skills mastered by students, and to produce good writing, students are required to understand the social functions, structure of a sentence, and grammar related to the writing. Students need to re-check their writing. Meanwhile, the manual process takes much time. Furthermore, a grammar checker is a tool to assist students in checking for errors in their writing. Grammarly is one of the grammar checkers that claims to be an easy tool that can help students and academies with their writing. Therefore, this study investigates students’ perceptions of Grammarly and assists them with the use of grammar structure, especially in writing. The results are in the data form of perceptions and views based on students’ experiences.

In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. The subjects were the students of Batch 2020 in the English Language Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University. The participants were 15 students who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires and interviews.

Based on the research findings, students perceive Grammarly helps them improve their spelling and makes them more aware of grammatical errors in writing. The components of correct that are most often encountered in checking and correcting students' writing using the Grammarly feature are the verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and the use of the article. In the classification of students’ errors based on Mustafa et al. (2016), students perceive Grammarly as helping them correct the result of translating Indonesian to English that contains incorrect order of words. On the other hand, the feature in Grammarly's free version is enough to help students correct grammatical errors and common mistakes in writing. The free version also supports several applications and word processors

From this research, it is suggested that students should use grammar checkers thoughtfully and responsibly. This research can also become a reference for further grammar checkers to improve the system, features, and more accurate feedback on grammar and writing.
