ABSTRACT

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information logically and objectively to make informed decisions. The low critical thinking ability in chemistry learning can be caused by the lack of application of learning that focuses on problem solving, the dominance of rote memorization methods, and the limited use of approaches that encourage exploration and analytical thinking. This research aims to examine the impact of applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on critical thinking skills in chemistry learning. The research method used is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Research data was obtained from reputable journal articles collected using the Harzing's Publish or Peris 8 application, selected and taken from journals published in the last 5 years. The results of the literature review show that PBL significantly increases students' active involvement, facilitates collaborative learning, and integrates theory with practice. Apart from that, PBL has also proven to be effective in developing analysis, evaluation, reflection and creativity skills in problem solving. This research confirms that the application of PBL in chemistry learning can have a positive impact on improving students' critical thinking skills, which in turn can improve the quality of chemistry education. Therefore, the integration of PBL in the chemistry curriculum is highly recommended to prepare students to face real challenges with strong critical thinking skills.
