Reading is one of important language skill that is about understanding written texts. Many students at SMPN 9 Banjarmasin face difficulties in reading comprehension such as finding the main idea and the meaning of words. This research focused on whether or not there are any significant differences in students’ reading achievement between the students taught using Homemade PowerPoint Games and those taught without Homemade PowerPoint Games at Eighth grade of SMPN9 Banjarmasin.

            This research used quasi experimental design and quantitative approach. The sample of this research were 70 eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Banjarmasin based on cluster random sample. 35 students of VIII B as the control group and 35 students of VIII C as the experimental group. Analysis of the data was done by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test on SPSS version 26.

            The result of this research showed that there is significant different achievement between the students who are taught reading comprehension by using Homemade PowerPoint Games and the students who were not. The students made progress in finding the main idea, specific information, and guessing the meaning of words. This is proved by the sig (2-tailed) value 0.006 which is lower than 0.05 and the t-test which is higher than the t-table. The t-test value is 2.835 while the t-table is 1.668 for df = 68 at the significance level = 0.05. Therefore, it is suggested to teachers and students to use Homemade PowerPoint Games in reading activities, especially in reading narrative text.
