In education, reading is the most dominant activities in any language. Due to students learn English as foreign language and also their English material, reading is one of way for students can get knowledge and improve their language. However, reading strategies are very important for students in comprehending reading materials. Students with good strategies are more likely to be successful in their studies. This research aims to find out types of reading strategies used by second-semester students in comprehending reading materials.

This research was conducted from June 7 to June 27, 2024 at Lambung Mangkurat University. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The participants consisted of 30 students of the 2nd semester of English Language Education Study Program. The data from this research were collected through a questionnaire.

            The finding of this research shows that students used various reading strategies, including annotating/analyzing, synthesizing, paraphrasing, summarizing, self-questioning, and reviewing. Some of these, annotating/analyzing is the most frequently used strategy. As a results, students do not only use one strategy but combine various strategies rather than relying on only one to help them comprehend the reading materials.
