Alabio yam with the latin name Dioscorea alata L. is one of the tuber plants that has great potential in the field of health and traditional medicine. Dioscorea species are often categorized as herbal plants because the potential of dried tubers or in the form of simplicia is often used in herbal medicine and has long been used in traditional medicine in China. Simplicia is a dried natural material that is used for medicine and has not undergone any processing, except with a drying temperature stated not more than 60?C for oven drying. This study aims to analyze the effect of slice thickness (0.5–1.0 mm and 1.1–2 mm) on the quality of alabio yam (Dioscorea alata L.) simplicia habang harum and habang carang varieties. The parameters tested include yield, water content, and total ash content. The drying method uses a wind-drying technique without direct sunlight for 12 days with an environmental temperature of 27–31°C and humidity ranging from 29%–80%. The results showed that the yield of habang harum simplicia was higher (67,18%) than habang carang (37,39%). The water content of the crude drug ranged from 10.75%–11.45%, with thicker slices (1.1–2.0 mm) having a higher water content. The total ash content ranged from 5.81%–5.85% and showed a negative correlation with slice thickness. This study indicates that slice thickness has a very significant effect and a strong correlation with the water content of the crude drug, but a significant effect and a negative correlation with the ash content of the crude drug. This study provides a basis for developing standardization of the crude drug from sweet potato as a raw material for traditional medicine...
