Textbooks, especially those utilized in language teaching and learning 

setting are often developed by the group of experts in order to minimize the flaws 

that may occur within the textbooks. Although most of the textbook that had been 

published and developed by the groups of experts are prominence in their quality, 

the textbook analysis is still necessary as the one of the functions of textbook 

analysis is as a tool to re check a textbook. Thus this textbook analysis study is 

intended to re-check the texts as a part of core content for a textbook.

 

This study applies a qualitative research and content analysis method that 

focuses on the texts that have sufficient features to be identified into an individual 

genre in the textbook “English for Nusantara” for Kelas VIII. The total data 

within this textbook was 18 texts. The study used a human instrument and 

systemic observation table that consist of three sub tables.

 

This study revealed that the texts that found within the textbook are in-line 

with the expected genre that should be taught by the recommendation of the 

Curriculum Merdeka through their alignment with the trend of genre that should 

be taught within ATPs. While most of texts are managed to realized an individual 

genre, and some of texts hold two genres within a single text in which at this 

context labeled as hybrid, there was also found a particular text that have the 

unidentifiable genre due to blurred social function in which labeled as anomalous

genre.
