This study aims to determine the improvement in basic motor skills of big ball games (soccer) through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to eighth-grade students at Junior High School 5 Alalak. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were all 35 eighth-grade students at Junior High School 5 Alalak. Learning was conducted over four sessions covering passing and receiving, dribbling, shooting, and final assessment, applying PBL stages of problem orientation, learning organization, investigation, presentation, and evaluation. Students' basic motor skills were measured using a skill assessment instrument on a 1–4 scale covering the aspects of passing, receiving, dribbling, and shooting. Pretest and posttest data were analyzed using reliability, normality, and N-Gain tests. The reliability test showed a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.721 (reliable). The average pretest score of 61.57 increased to
84.60 in the posttest. The N-Gain calculation showed an average of 0.683, falling in the moderate-to-high category, with 54.3% of students in the high category, 42.9% in the moderate category, and only 2.9% in the low category. The application of the Problem Based Learning model proved effective in improving the basic motor skills of big ball games among eighth-grade students at JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 5 Alalak, as shown by the significant increase from pretest to posttest scores and an average N-Gain value in the moderate category.
